State-wise Rice Productivity Analysis |
State : Gujrat |
In Gujarat rice is grown in 14 districts. Out of which the productivity of 5 districts each is low and very low and three districts are under medium-low productivity group. One district falls under high productivity group i.e. yield more than 2500 kg/ha. Triennium average area of this district was 0.07 lakh hectares, which was 1.1% of triennium average area (6.40 lakh hectares) under rice in the State. Triennium average production was 0.19 lakh tonnes, which was 2.2% of triennium average production (8.68 lakh tonnes) of rice in the State. Triennium average Productivity of high productivity group of one district was 2,603 kg/ha, as against 1,356 kg/ha triennium average productivity of the State.
Triennium average area of medium-low productivity group (1500-2000kg/ha) comprising of three districts was 2.55 lakh hectares, which was 39.8% of triennium average area (6.40 lakh hectares) under rice in the State. Triennium average production was 4.50 lakh tonnes, which was 51.8% of triennium average production (8.68 lakh tonnes) of rice in the State. Triennium average productivity of medium low productivity group comprising of three districts was 1,765 kg/ha as against 1,356 kg/ha triennium average productivity of the State.
Triennium average area of low productivity group (1000-1500 kg/ha) comprising of five districts was 1.16 lakh hectares, which was 18.1% of triennium average area (6.40 lakh hectares) under rice. Triennium average production was 1.68 lakh tonnes, which was 19.4% of triennium average production (8.68 lakh tonnes) of rice in the State. Triennium average productivity of low productivity group comprising of five districts was 1,448 kg/ha as against 1,356 kg/ha triennium average productivity of the State.
Triennium average area of very low productivity group (Yield below 1000 kg/ha) comprising of five districts was 2.62 lakh hectares, which was 40.9% of triennium average area (6.40 lakh hectares) under rice. Triennium average production was 2.31 lakh tonnes, which was 26.6% of triennium average production (8.68 lakh tonnes) of rice in the State. Triennium average productivity of very low productivity group comprising of five districts was 882 kg/ha as against 1,356 kg/ha triennium average productivity of the State.
The Productivity of rice in Gujarat state is very poor i.e., 1,356 kg/ha as against 1,947 kg/ha average productivity of the nation. More than 40% rice area is concentrated in very low productivity group followed by nearly 40% area in medium-low productivity group.
Area, production and productivity of rice under different productivity groups in Gujarat during triennium ending 2000-2001 are given in Table-6.
