State-wise Rice Productivity Analysis |
State : Meghalaya |
Rice is grown in seven districts of Meghalaya. Out of which one district falls under medium productivity group, 4 districts under medium-low productivity group and 2 districts under low productivity groups respectively. Triennium average area of medium productivity group (yield 2,000-2,500 kg/ha) in one district was 0.118 lakh hectares, which was 11.1% of triennium average area (1.06 lakh hectares) under rice in the State. Triennium average production was 0.24 lakh tonnes, which was 14.6% of triennium average production (1.65 lakh tonnes) of rice in the State. Triennium average productivity of medium productivity group was 2,042 kg/ha as against 1,558 kg/ha triennium average productivity of the State.
Triennium average area of medium-low productivity group (yield 1,500-2,000 kg/ha) comprising of 4 districts was 0.761 lakh hectares, which was 71.7% of triennium average area (1.06 lakh hectares) under rice in the State. Triennium average production was 1.181 lakh tonnes, which was 71.4% of triennium average production (1.65 lakh tonnes) of rice in the State. Triennium average productivity of medium-low productivity group was 1,552 kg/ha as against 1,558 kg/ha triennium average productivity of the State.
Triennium average area of low productivity group (1,000-1,500 kg/ha) comprising of two districts was 0.182 lakh hectares, which was 17.2% of triennium average area (1.06 lakh hectares) under rice in the State. Triennium average production was 0.231 lakh tonnes, which was 14% per cent of triennium average production (1.65 lakh tonnes) of rice in the State. Triennium average productivity group comprising of two districts was 1,269 kg/ha as against 1,558 kg/ha triennium average productivity of the State.
About 72% of total area under rice in the State is concentrated in medium-low productivity group and accounts for about 71% of total rice production in the State. Triennium average productivity of the State is 1,558 kg/ha, which is about 20% less than the national triennium average productivity of 1,947 kg/ha.
Area, production and productivity of rice under different productivity groups in Meghalaya during triennium ending 2000-2001 are given in Table-15.
